AI image watermark remover

Remove visible watermarks from AI-generated images

Many AI image generators mark what they make. Some marks you can see, many you can’t. Erazely rebuilds the area under a visible mark. Here’s what that changes and what it doesn’t.

Visible marks and invisible signals are different things

When people talk about an “AI watermark”, they can mean three different things: a visible logo, badge or label drawn onto the image; an invisible watermark hidden in the image content; or provenance metadata stored alongside it in the file. Generators often use more than one at once.

Erazely only handles the first kind. You mark the visible badge or label, and Erazely rebuilds that area from the surrounding image, the same way the image watermark remover handles any overlay. Invisible watermarks and provenance records are out of scope: Erazely doesn’t detect, test or remove them. If you made the image in Gemini, the Gemini watermark guide covers Google’s own setting for the visible mark.

The three kinds of AI image marks

What each one is, and whether Erazely touches it.

  • Visible marks: Erazely can remove these

A logo, symbol, badge or text label drawn into the pixels. Google’s Gemini sparkle is one documented example. Erazely treats these like any other overlay and rebuilds the area underneath.

  • Invisible watermarks: not removed

Signals embedded in the image content that people can’t see, such as Google DeepMind’s SynthID. Google says SynthID is designed to withstand edits like cropping, filters and lossy compression. Erazely doesn’t detect or target them.

  • Provenance metadata: not a feature

Content Credentials, based on the open C2PA standard, record a file’s origin and edits. Google and OpenAI both document Content Credentials on their generated images. Erazely doesn’t read or edit them. Its download is a new file that doesn’t copy the original’s metadata.

Check your generator before you edit

Some generators let you turn off the visible mark, or don’t add one on certain plans. Gemini Apps, for example, has a Media watermark setting. These options vary by product, plan and region and change often, so check the generator’s own help pages and terms first. An image generated without the mark is always cleaner than one that has been edited.

Step by step

Remove a visible AI watermark with Erazely

  1. Step 1

    Start from the original

Upload the file you downloaded from the generator, not a screenshot or a copy re-shared on social media. Re-shared copies are often resized and recompressed.

  2. Step 2

    Mark the badge or label

Erazely scans for watermarks, logos and text. If a corner badge isn’t highlighted, box it with the rectangle tool, with a few pixels of margin.

  3. Step 3

    Handle text labels

If the mark is a line of text rather than a symbol, a tight box around the whole line works best. The Text Remover uses the same editor with text-first detection.

  4. Step 4

    Compare at full size

Remove, then zoom in and compare before downloading. Generated images often have fine texture, so check the repaired area closely.

Good to know

  • Erazely removes visible marks only. It doesn’t remove SynthID or other invisible watermarks, and we make no claims about how AI detectors treat an edited image.
  • Don’t use Erazely as a way to strip provenance. Its download doesn’t copy the original’s metadata, so keep the original if you need its Content Credentials.
  • Generator terms still apply after you remove a mark. Some platforms and laws require AI-generated images to be labelled, and removing a visible mark doesn’t change that.
  • Only edit images you generated yourself or have permission to edit. Don’t use edited images to pass AI content off as real photos.

FAQ

AI image watermark FAQ

Still curious? Email us.

Which AI image generators add a visible watermark?

It depends on the product, your plan, your region and the date. Google documents a visible watermark, and a setting for it, in Gemini Apps. For other generators, check their help pages: we only describe behavior we’ve confirmed in official documentation.

Can Erazely remove SynthID or other invisible AI watermarks?

No. Erazely is built for marks you can see. It doesn’t detect, test or remove invisible watermarks, and an edited image should not be treated as unmarked.

Does Erazely remove Content Credentials (C2PA)?

Erazely doesn’t read or edit metadata. The image you download is a new file created by your browser, and it doesn’t copy the original’s metadata. That is a side effect of saving a new file, not a provenance-removal feature, and it doesn’t affect watermarks embedded in the image itself.

Will AI detectors still flag the edited image?

We don’t test Erazely against AI detectors and make no claims about them. Removing a visible badge changes a small area of the image. It doesn’t change how the rest of the image was made.

Am I allowed to remove the watermark from an AI image?

That depends on the generator’s terms and how you use the image. Read the terms for the tool you used, follow any labelling rules where you publish, and never use the edited image to mislead people about whether it’s real.

Can I clean an AI image someone else made?

Only with their permission. The same rule applies to every image you edit with Erazely.
